Three weeks and Volunteer work.

I checked out books for some people. The due date is June 4, 2019. In three weeks, my love will be graduating from training with his class. It’s hard to believe that in three weeks, I will be witnessing him accomplish what he set out to do so many months ago. I am so proud of him and I love him so very much. I miss him and I’m ready for him to be home. Not too much longer and I will have him in my arms again.

In his last letter, he mentioned he wants to do more volunteer work either with the church or a nonprofit organization and eventually volunteer for a community garden somewhere. I’m not opposed to the idea, but I think we need to ease back into it once he gets back.

First, we need to go to church. The one that we’re thinking about has three church services that we can choose from. If we’re to volunteer through the church, we then need to find a volunteer program/outlet that would suit us and make us happy. Ask the church community what volunteer opportunities are available for the summer. If we decide to volunteer at a nonprofit organization, we need to look at the different organizations and see which ones we would most like to volunteer at. They are all worthy causes but it would be most meaningful to us.

Some nonprofit organizations I like:

  • Make a Wish Foundation
  • Wounded Warrior Project
  • American Red Cross
  • SISCA (nonprofit to help get animals adopted)
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Peace Corps

Of course there’s other volunteering opportunities in the community such as the parks and recreation and at One Bistro, among many other places. If we started small like at an organization in town and volunteer once or twice a month, we can see what we like and don’t like and then go from there. If we don’t like volunteering someplace, we can try a different place and then increase the volunteering days if we find we enjoy what we’re doing.

Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m more excited about maybe trying something out with him. It would be great character building and help strengthen our relationship. We’ll have to talk about it more when he gets home. Maybe we’ll even do a short travel volunteer thing. That could also be a possibility. We’ll see.
