I’m currently reading The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin. It was made into a movie not too long ago with Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I don’t know how it compares, but so far I find the book to be interesting. Frankly, it’s an adult version of Hatchet by Gary Paulson. With a love story. Eventually. The back of the book says a love story is coming but quite frankly I can’t see it happening anytime soon. I hope it’s not a forced story; those types make it even more depressing.
Another thing that’s disappointing is the perceived racial love story that’s going on. At least, that’s how the movie previews made it out to be. That two different people of different races fell in love in a nature survival story. So far the characters’ race hasn’t been told or shown; and thus the movie is making its own interpretations.
Which, to be honest, I don’t care anymore.
It used to bother me a whole lot more than it did. As long as they hit the major plot points and stay true to the characters’, well, character, then I’m alright.
This is a book I own. I want to catch up on books that I own just so I can decide which ones to keep and which ones to get rid of. It’s a long, hard process.
I will survive, though.
