I finished reading Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. It’s not the first time I’ve read it and I can’t say the ending can be comfortably categorized as a happy one, but I love the dynamic between Lou and Will, two people of opposite personalities and walks of life who somehow overcome their differences to love and change each other…to a certain degree.
Lou lives a sheltered life, while Will was bold, rich, and ambitious until an accident forces him to live small. With Will, Lou finds her confidence to live more boldly and Will finds a purpose however short, with the time he’s been with Lou. (Still haven’t sorted Will out in that regard.)
Life is about how you make of it, and you don’t know what it’s like until you live more boldly. Maybe that’s why I love Lou so much, because she learns to live more boldly even after her small comfortably, minus her chatter and bright clothes.
It makes me want to travel more, go scuba diving, have an exciting life. At the same time, it’s also okay to have quiet days, ones to relax and contemplate.
Maybe our “live boldly” means different things to different people. We just need to figure out what that means to us.
